Despite being very common in Asia, entomologists actually know very little about this species, though we do know a small amount.

Living in small colonies, which is unusual for a small ant (4-6mm workers) they only reach around 400 workers, however their small size doesn't diminish their resistance, as these ants, nicknamed the turtle ants for good reason, have one of the hardest exo-skeletons of any arthropods.

They look very similar to the new world ants "cephalotes" though cataulacus granulatus are strictly from Asia, not South America.

They like a reasonably high humidity, 60-70%, and heated at around 26-28 degrees.
