Pogonomyrmex Barbatus

Pogonomyrmex Barbatus, the Messor Barbarus from across the pond, are an American species typically characterised by their bulky physiques and red colouration, aswell as their harvesting behaviour, of collecting and eating seeds.

They do best in a warm climate and as they are harvesters give a wide variety range, but other than that their care is standard, seeds, occasional insects and sugars, heat, ect.

Natural or artificial nests both work for this species, so the opportunities for nests are truly endless considering how basic their requirements are, however they are still only recommended for advanced keepers as they are rather expensive and often fail to found.
